Personal Training · Getting back into it

Get back into training, and stay this time.

Personal training in Southeast Portland for adults returning after time away. We start with the body that showed up today, not the one you had five years ago, and we rebuild from there.

As an older woman who hadn’t done any strength training in years, I was slightly worried I would feel out of place. Fortunately, there are members of all ages and abilities and my fears were immediately put to rest.

You already know how this usually goes.

You start too hard, because you remember what you used to lift. A week in, something in the knee or the lower back reminds you that the body kept a record while you were away. Two weeks in, you stop. Not because you’re lazy. Because the plan was built for the person you were, not the one who showed up.

Years off change things. Tissue that used to absorb load takes longer. Positions that felt automatic need to be relearned. That isn’t decline. It’s information, and most programs ignore it completely.

We start with the body that showed up.

Not where it was, not where a generic twelve-week plan assumes it should be. You move, we watch, and we build from what we actually see. The first month is slower than your ego wants. That’s the point. We’re rebuilding the base that everything else sits on.

You are never anonymous in the room.

You train in a small group, not a crowd. So when your left side compensates for the right, or you hold your breath through a hinge, someone notices in the moment and fixes it.

Every month you get a new program, built around what your body did the month before. The one who returns after a long break needs that more than anyone, because you’re changing quickly and the plan has to keep up.

Coming back isn’t starting over. You still have the years of training underneath. We just meet the body you brought today.

They came back too. Here's what happened.

Common questions.

I haven't trained in years. Am I too out of shape to start here?

No. A lot of our members walk in after years away. We start with where your body is now, not where it used to be, and the first month is deliberately slower while we rebuild the base. You won't be thrown into someone else's workout.

Will I get hurt jumping back in?

That's exactly the risk we're built to manage. The usual way people get hurt coming back is starting too hard, too fast, on a generic plan. We watch how you move first, load conservatively, and a coach is in the room to catch the compensations before they turn into an injury.

How much does it cost?

Monthly, with no long contracts. Most members train two or three times a week, starting at $392 a month.
