Your first session

One hour. Here's exactly what happens in it.

An assessment, not a tryout. You'll do some work, none of it is something you can fail, and you'll leave knowing what your program is built to change.

The hour, start to finish.

  1. First

We talk about what you're training for.

Before anything physical, we sit down. What you want to be able to do, what has gone wrong before, what you have already tried. Nothing gets tested until we know what we're testing for.

  2. Then

We work out which joints carry the load.

Your goal decides this. Training for a race asks different things of your body than getting back under a barbell. We identify the joints your training is going to lean on hardest.

  3. Then

We measure what those joints can do right now.

This is the part most people expect to dread. It's measurement, not a workout, and there's no score to pass. We're finding where your capacity currently runs out, because that's where your program starts.

  4. Last

You book your sessions before you leave.

We start writing your program while the assessment is still fresh. You schedule your training days on your way out.

Before you come.

The Peak Condition studio at 615 SE Clay Street, Portland: grey building with a blue door and roll-up glass garage door

The room won’t be empty. Other athletes will be training while we work, each of them on their own program. Every one of them started with this same hour.

  • There's street parking on SE Clay, right outside the studio.
  • Wear clothes you can move in. That's the whole requirement.
  • Give it a full hour. The assessment is one-on-one, and it isn't something to rush.

What the hour looks like.

What you walk out with.

You’ll know which joints are limiting the thing you want to do. You’ll know what your first program is built to change, and why it’s built that way. And you’ll have your training days on the calendar. If it turns out this isn’t the right place for you, you still leave with the assessment and a clear read on what your body actually needs.

That’s the whole first visit.
